The Association of Poetry Readers
The association of poetry readers were discussing the merits of Robert De Niro in Martin Scorceses award-winning picture, Raging Bull
I wasn’t listening, I left there quite promptly, to go on a date with a girl from West Hampstead I was awkward as usual I doubt that we’re going to meet up again
And as i walk home, on my own through the evening, my mind turns again to the question of leaving but where could I go, oh god only knows
And the trees, though they stand by the pavement so quietly, they look down upon me with unbridled piety and everyone knows, how i did it all wrong, how i did it all wrong
Sunlight come again
Sunlight be my friend
The association of poetry readers were deep in the midst of Eugene Onegin but id read it before - I got terribly bored
So I sat at the back, reading the London paper, celebrity gossip, the return of the savior, after all these long years I had started to fear
That outside the spaces were all of them empty, with nothing to feel but a dull aching envy and then you came along, you came along
Creative Commons and mashing up
A quick scout around youtube and vimeo and I found some great clips to use and strung them together into this little film.
Open source, Petite Planetes, FOI
I’ve also been thinking a bit about how creative ventures depend on information being free and the process of making music openly. After seeing the brilliant petites planètes a world without multinational record labels seems like it could be a much richer place.
As part of a piece I had to write recently I was looking at creative cities and how certain places have a mulitplier effect on the development of the creative industries. Pat of this has to do with the nature of information and how we use it in modern society.Information can have two functions :
- To create advantage over other people - insider trading, the position of troops in a war, the strategy of your business rival…
- To share experience with others - music, education, and just about any creative process…
The more that information is shared the greater creative energy is possible. and the more remixes, mashups and new content can be made. In keeping with the creative commons idea I’ve put up a track from ages ago which is a bit of a mashup already having appropriated some of the lyrics from a poem by Langston Hughes.
